In October 1998 HP introduced the 8 page per minute (ppm) LaserJet 1100 printer as the replacement for the LaserJet 6L (AX) printer. The new 1100 model was based on the Canon LBP-22X print engine.

The LaserJet 3200 FAX-based multifunction peripheral (MFP) followed In October 2000, designed around the same LBP-22X engine as that of the 1100. The 3200 featured 9 ppm printing, fax, copy, and scanning functions. At its release, the 3200 was HP’s first laser MFP with a color scanner.

The 1100's 2,500 yield cartridges are very similar to those used by the original AX unit, but with a toner sensor bar added. Many of Static Control’s replacement AX components have been qualified for use with the 1100 and 3200 cartridges, as well as the EP-22 cartridge used by the Canon versions.
